Hostel: Part III

Dir: Scott Spiegel
Running Time: 88 minutes

"Right guys, let's get slaughtered."
"Man, I feel a prick."
This third instalment of Eli Roth’s original grisly gorno bunkum bypassed theatrical release. It’s perhaps not without a little irony then that this direct-to-video sequel literally winds up taking place in a bargain basement. Taking the blueprint of the previous two entries and given the most minor of limp twists, Hostel: Part III dispatches another clutch of obnoxious arseholes whilst this time tying the torture to a Vegas gambling spectator sport, an idea introduced and swiftly abandoned with about as much thought and care as the end of this sentence fish fingers.

Without even the smarts of, say, Cannibal Holocaust to reflect wittily on horror’s ability to lecture its audience whilst entertaining and appalling in equal measures, what’s left is simply sub-par box-ticking that doesn't even deliver on the much-vaunted gore one might reasonably expect from such a franchise.

An exploitation title that exploits only the audience’s patience, this is one gamble not worth risking.

3/10
